MONKEY BEACH slips and slides between the past and the presents, tying the disparate parts of heroine Lisamarie's life together in unexpected ways. The nominal driving force of the novel is the disappearance of Lisamarie's older brother, Jimmy.4/5.

Monkey Beach is the most original and entertaining novel I have read in recent memory. It was a suprise that, despite the less ordinary setting of a native community in northern BC, so much of the coming-of-age scenario was evocative of my own.

Unlike my usual life, however, after finishing the book I continue to see giant cedars, mist rising /5(31). In the final part of the book, Lisa, in the present day, is inspired to stop at Monkey Beach on her way to Namu.
